Negotiations between NABET-CWA and NBCUniversal have been ongoing during the past several weeks. The most recent round of bargaining concluded on Wednesday, March 28th. While much progress has been made, the parties have been unable to reach mutually acceptable terms for a successor Master Agreement.
The NABET-CWA/NBCU Master Agreement is scheduled to expire tomorrow – Saturday, March 31, 2018 - but the Union and the Company have agreed to a contract extension, which will run through April 30, 2018.
This is an important development in these negotiations. A contract extension means that all terms and conditions of the Master Agreement remain in full force and effect, through the period of the extension. In the past few contract negotiation cycles, the parties have not typically executed extension agreements. This extension agreement signals a different approach by the parties and underscores a commitment to the process.
At the outset of these negotiations, the Union and the Company agreed that an intensely focused approach to bargaining was the best way to achieve and deliver a new contract, in a timely manner. To that end, the parties committed to a schedule of face-to-face talks which began on January 3rd and have continued during several weeks since, in both New York and Los Angeles.
Negotiations are scheduled to resume the week of April 23, 2018, in New York City.
Bulletins and other official information concerning these negotiations will be distributed by the Sector and Locals as necessary.
In Solidarity,
NABET-CWA Network Negotiating Committee
